One Hour of Power on a Single Charge
Winner of the 2009 Organic Gardening Editors' Choice Award, the Neuton CE 6.3 Battery-Powered Mower is a welcome relief from the arm-yanking pull-starts, noxious fumes, startling noises, and uncomfortable vibrations of a gas lawn mower. It starts every time with a simple push of a button and can mow for up to an hour on a single charge--ample time for most small- to medium-sized lawns. Unlike other battery mowers with built-in batteries that require you to stop mowing to recharge, if you need more time with the CE 6.3, just drop in an optional Spare Battery and keep mowing. For added convenience, you can also use this model as a trim mower for larger lawns.

Environmentally Friendly Gas- and Oil-Free Operation
The key benefits of the CE 6.3 are that it works well without compromising the environment, and that it doesn’t demand continual maintenance. Because this mower never requires gas or oil, it won’t need a tune-up. Plus, it runs clean, meaning it won’t release harmful pollutants or carbon emissions into the air. Additionally, no gas or oil means easy cleaning and safe storage without spills or fumes.

Magnet Battery and 3-in-1 Cutting Options for Power and Versatility
This efficient mower owes its robust performance to a removable, rechargeable, 36-amp, 750-watt magnet battery that has a 60-minute run time per charge, depending on grass conditions. The battery saves you money by costing only 10 cents per recharge, and it saves you time by fully recharging in just 12 hours. Additionally, the battery will last up to five years with proper care and is over 95 percent recyclable.

The CE 6.3 also offers versatile three-in-one cutting options, includes a rear grass bag (with a 1.33-bushel capacity), side discharge chute, and mulching plug.

Lightweight for Easy Pushing, Adjustable Height for Greater Flexibility
Easy to operate, the CE 6.3 weighs just 69 pounds, so you won’t struggle to push it across your lawn. Additionally, a single-touch height-adjustment lever raises and lowers the cutting blade from 1.2 to 3.0 inches, giving you great flexibility.

19-inch Cutting Width for Better Control and Great Results
Equipped with 10-inch front wheels and seven-inch rear wheels, this mower is stable and sturdy, even when mowing around trees or shrubs or on rugged terrain. Its 19-inch cutting width lets you power through your lawn, leaving only manicured grass behind.

Truly Quiet Operation for More Enjoyable Yard Work
Because it runs on a battery, the CE 6.3 boasts a quiet running noise, at a level that’s roughly half of what a conventional gas mower produces. This low noise level makes operation more pleasant for both you and your neighbors. You might even be able to ditch those ear plugs for good!

Cost-Effective Design Saves You Money
The CE 5.2 saves you money year after year thanks to its low operating costs. The estimated cost to operate a gas mower (including gasoline, oil, spark plugs, filters, and tune-ups) for four years is as much as $260.00. The costs of recharging the battery over four years of mowing 28 times per year with a Neuton Mower is approximately $11.20. That's a huge savings!

Ready to Go Right Out of the Box
With CE 6.3, you don’t have to wait to mow. It arrives with everything you need to get started right away, including the battery, battery charger, and rear grass-collection bag.

Optional Accessories for All-in-One Yard Maintenance
Neuton Mowers have attachments and accessories that give you options other mowers simply can’t. For instance, you can purchase the Premier Accessories Pack and enjoy an on-board string-trimmer/edger, which eliminates the need for a second piece of equipment and gives your yard and walkways a beautiful, clean finish. And for that ballpark look, consider investing in the Lawn Striper.

The CE 6.3 has an overall width of 21 inches, a maximum height of 42 inches, and weighs 69 pounds. It comes with a two-year warranty.

Excellent Mower

Review Date: June 26, 2009
Reviewer: Unix Pimp,
I actually have owned the Neuton CE 6.2 model for over one season. The Neuton CE 6.3 is this year's model.

This is an excellent battery powered mower. It is very light without the battery, and it is around 70 lbs with the battery installed.

The mower is very quiet and is about as loud as a cooling fan. There are little to no vibrations from the motor, which is a huge positive for people like me who have issues with holding vibrating tools for long periods of time.

The battery does last for about an hour, but you should plan out your cutting route. Do not goof around, and you should be able to mow an entire 1/3rd acre yard in one charge. If you have a larger yard or you have a thick blade southern grass yard, then a second battery is recommended.

The motor is maintenance free. No oil or fuel issues like traditional gas powered mowers. The motor starts right away with a fully charged battery. During the winter season, I stored the mower, kept the battery on the charger, and the mower was ready for the spring cutting season with zero hassle or maintenance.

Since it does not emit exhaust and is quiet, mowing the yard is pleasurable. You can smell the cut grass instead of the exhaust fumes and you do not have to wear ear plugs. I do not have an issue pushing the mower since it is only 70 lbs, so I do not miss the self propelled feature. I have a bumpy, uneven lawn, and I do not have a problem pushing the mower. It is no harder than pushing a shopping cart, so most people should not miss the self propelled feature of other mowers.

I would recommend cleaning the underside of the deck after each mow with a garden hose. There is no issue tipping the mower on its side since it will not leak fluids like a gas mower. I would also recommend sharpening the blade at least once a month. Neuton sells a sharpening tool, but any blade sharpener will work. Neuton recommends keeping the battery on the charger when not in use, unless you are storing the mower over a several month period. The owner's manual has all the details. That is another benefit of the Neuton. Since Neuton is a USA based company, the instructions are in clear English, and the customer service is excellent.

There is also the environmental factor to owning this mower, and that may be important to some people. It was not high on my list, but it is nice to not pollute the air while cutting my lawn. Small gas engines emit more pollution than a car with a V-8 engine, which is something to consider.

However, this mower is probably not cheaper to own than a cheap gas mower. I know you can get a cheap gas mower at your local big box home center for less than $200, but you have to deal with all the negatives of a gas powered mower. It is not fair to compare this mower to a cheap $200 mower. Compare it to a $450 - $500 gas mower, and then one can see the cost savings of the Neuton.

Neuton CE 6.3 19-Inch 36-Volt Cordless Electric Discharge/Mulching/Bagging Lawn Mower With Removable Battery

I own 2 of the 6.3 Neuton Mower. I buy those mowers in the spring of 2009 for two obvious reason, don't need to change oil and no fume. If my decision was based on price, i will never bought those mower since they are very expensive.

First of all, its not a gas mower, its electric and the power it weaker when the grass is wet, otherwise, it is more than fine. The secret with those electric mower is to maintain your grass properly.

For the mulching, it work perfectly and the life of the battery is the same, no difference. The mulching work well, here in the north, end of June to end of august when the grass is less charge with water. In other period, use the side discharge. For the bagging, it is not the perfect tool. One not so well kept secret is to keep the blade always sharp, that will make all the difference on the battery life and the final result (try to cut think with a bad knife!!!).

When you receive your mower, no matter the brand, you have to follow the manufacturer instruction (same as any electronic device such as cell phone) for the first charge of the battery you have to wait 36 to 72 hours according to Neuton. After the first charge, each charge is 8 hours. The way to maintain your battery during the off season recharge the battery each 2 months ( put a reminder on your calendar). To maintain your battery in good health, never allow a deep discharge otherwise, the battery will last less longer.

Another secret, electric mower are no different than gas, when the are empty, they are empty, so if the job take more than 45 minutes full trotle, buy a second battery (that what we call a fill up!!!).

You can consider to buy the bundle (available on Neuton web site), witch include the replacement blade (don't forget, you need no tools, they are provided with the mower) a sharpener (absolutely needed for serious people and believe me, they are good) a replacement spool, the charger, additional battery and the weed wacker (to put in the front of the mower). The weed waker, in my case, is useless.

I really enjoy my mowers and enjoy to do the grass with it and it perfect on flat surface, when hill, need a bit of your human energy and I never consider the price per cut, I consider the noise and protection of our environment. The price of a good gas mower is really pricy, 600$ for a real Honda mower.
Finally, I mow almost 2,5 A of land so I can say that the mowers do the jobs. All con opinion, in my point of view, are unjustified.

Works great!

When I first received my Neuton last season, I was a little disappointed because the key kept popping out and the mower lacked some power. After talking with Neuton, it was determined that there was some damage to the electrical key receptacle during shipment and they shipped me a replacement part. Since then, the mower works just as good as my Sears self-propelled mower, is quieter, and does not required any gas, oil, or tune-ups prior to the mowing season. I highly recommend this mower and get positive comments on it all of the time. I even have had professional lawn service personnel inquire about my mower and a neighbor has purchased one after seeing my success with it over the past year. Just buy one.....you'll love it too!
great little electric mower

First, let's get one thing out of the way: this is NOT a self-propelled gas mower. If you don't have it in you to push a 70 lb. mower then don't bother. But you're not looking at the Neuton mower because you want something self-propelled and gas-powered. No, you're looking at the Neuton because you care about the environment (and maybe the neighborhood noise) and want something that's easy to use and doesn't require gas and oil and spark plugs etc.

The major pros of the Neuton CE 6.3: [1] electric [re-chargeable] battery-powered; [2] reasonably lightweight; and [3] quiet enough that you can carry on a conversation with your mowing mate (if you happen to have one).

My own observations:

(1) The mower will cut the power if there's too much tension on the blade (e.g., it's getting all clogged up or else the blade hits the underlying dirt). Don't panic. This is a smart design choice that will preserve the life of the motor. Just depress the button in the Neuton's key and you're off and running again.

(2) It won't feel as powerful as what you're used to. But let's face it: you're just cutting grass.

(3) If you've got a big lawn (>1/4 acre) then you might want to split it up into 2 mowing sessions. Also, if you've let the lawn go to 6 inches or so (as I did) you may want to split it up into 2 mowing sessions.

Overall: very happy. A couple quirks but very happy.
Great cordless mower compared to B & D

Review Date: September 26, 2009
Reviewer: cameron scott,
I used to have a Black and Decker corded electric mower, and recently decided to go cordless. After purchasing the B&D cordless model, I returned it because of the quality of the mowing, which I found substandard. It was not powerful enough to throw grass back into the bag, and so it became clogged almost imediately and left untidy piles of grass all over my yard, which needed to be raked. Even under the mulching setting it left ugly rows of dead grass in the wheel tracks. No good.

I bought a Neuton instead and have used it several times. I am very happy with the power and mowing performance of this mower. My yard is within the size specifications for the Neuton's battery, and so I am satisfied by it's ability to get the job done. There are many features that the Neuton has which make it worth the extra money over B&D. First, the removable battery is really a handy feature. If your yard is very large, just buy a spare. The replacement batteries for the Neuton are some of the most affordable replacement batteries on these types of mowers. Everything about the mower seems pretty ergonomic. My only complaints are that the height adjustments are not very fine-tuned. The difference in height between settings 2 and 3 is enough to "burn" my lawn, but 3 seems a bit long sometimes. However, I will say that the lowest setting is very short, which I think a lot of electric mowers would have trouble doing without bogging down, but the Neuton is so powerful it will take your grass as short as you want. Also, I find it just a little tricky to unhook the clippings bag from the mower. Just a little awkward is all.

As a lawn perfectionist, I am very happy with how my grass looks after using the Neuton. Highly recommended for anyone trying to decide which cordless mower to get. Also, if you go to the Neuton website directly, I believe they have reconditioned units available, which could save you a few bucks.
Super easy to use on small lawn

For several years we used an old-fashioned reel mower on our lawn but a couple years ago we bought a new house that had a disaster of a lawn. It's small but is one hill down to the street and was weedy as heck. The reel mower just wasn't doing a good job and my body wasn't happy with all the strain of pushing that reel mower through the rough patches. After months of research we decided on the Neuton CE 6.3.
It was a pricey purchase for us but well worth it.

Our lot is less than 1/2 acre and it only takes me 20-25 minutes to mow, and that includes emptying the bag twice. I only mow every 10-14 days so it does fill up twice but emptying it is super easy. I don't mulch as I am allergic to grass and can't have it touching me at all. The bag does a good job of sucking up all the grass--if you pay attention to the sound of the mower, you can tell when it is getting full. We sprayed under the deck with cooking spray and haven't had any problem with clogging.

The neighbours like that it is quiet. Even if they are walking their dogs on the sidewalk three feet from the mower, the dogs do not get scared of the noise.

I like that I don't have to deal with gas, which gives me headaches. I am just a smidge over 5 feet tall and find the adjustable handle height fits me well. I have no problem moving the mower across the yard even though it is not self-propelled. Actually, I am not even tired when I finish mowing the grass but don't tell the hubby that! He thinks it is the worst chore ever and will volunteer to do many chores to get out of mowing.

I can mow three times before I have to recharge. I also like that I can actually pick the mower up and move it between our vehicles in the garage easily. No way would a gas mower fit in such a tight spot.

I have mowed our yard since May 09 and have not had any problems with the mower at all. For us, it was pricey but well worth it.
Great power, low emissions, low noise

I have been thrilled with this mower. We use it to mow our lawn and my mother-in-law's next door. The Neuton can easily handle both lawns on one battery (we bought a second just in case but have never needed to use more than one charge to get the job done).

My husband loves it because it is so quiet he can get out before the heat and get the lawn mowed without creating a lot of noise.

Another advantage is that it is lighter weight than most mowers so it is easier to get in and out of the truck when we have to go mow a rental property.

It is not self propelled but the lighter weight makes it easier to manuver
